I am a German language teacher to foreign students living in Germany. I earned a master’s degree in Germanic linguistics and literature and a PhD in teaching German as a foreign language from the Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany. Teaching is my passion and I have never had regrets about the choice of my career. I am a fan of advanced teaching technologies and glad that they make distance language learning a reality to millions of students around the world, especially those from less privileged backgrounds. Thanks to these technologies I am experiencing a fast growing number of online students from all five inhabited continents. To respond to the rising demand from my students and German language enthusiasts around the world I have developed a portal called plainly Learn German Online to offer them free German language learning resources such as video courses, interactive online lessons, exercises and tests, downloadable pdf textbooks, vocabulary-building apps, examples of language examinations, reading materials (incl. German language Ebooks, online newspapers and magazines), and links to language exchanges and free online streams of German TV and Radio. In addition, in order to keep my students motivated to learn German I am also providing basic advice on general topics many of them might be interested in. These include the study and work opportunities in Germany and topics related to dealing with German immigration regulations. Germany is a great place to live and German economy is doing well. But to keep the ball rolling German labour market needs skilled foreign workforce which, as I believe, could be a strong incentive for many German online learners to continue with their studies until they achieve fluency in the German language. Given all these free online resources and advanced communication technologies it is possible to learn German fluently even when a person lives on a small island thousands of miles away from Germany provided they have access to the Internet.
